18th July, 1938.

Messrs. F.{Mr Friese} Perkins Limited,
PETERBOROUGH.

Your Ref: AWG/PB.

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your letter of the 15th July. There is no doubt that the bearing which you show could be replaced by one in aluminium tin. At the moment, Messrs. Wellworthy, Lymington, are doing all the machining of aluminium tin bearings, and we are, therefore, passing your order on to them, and asking them to deal with the matter.

[Handwritten note: Sent to Howlett 18/7/38.]

The Writer regrets that he was absent from the Works during your recent visit.

In using aluminium tin bearings we should like to emphasise the desirability of incorporating some efficient by-pass filter in the system, as this material cannot produce the best results unless the oil is maintained at a very high standard of cleanliness.

Yours faithfully,

For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
