x 1020 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}9/JH. 5th August, 1936. Messrs. Ransome & Marles Bearing Co.Ltd., Newark-on-Trent. For the attention of F.O.Hickling Esq., Dear Sirs, We are sending to you under separate cover a steering gear roller of the type which we use on our Ph.III chassis and which has done 3,000 miles on the road. As you will notice, the roller bearing tracks on the inside of the roller follower are appreciably worn, whereas we have run a similar part 20,000 miles under much more arduous conditions without any signs of wear. We should be very glad if you could give us your opinion of the cause of this wear, i.e. whether the case is soft or thin, or whether the bearing is overloaded. The rollers are 0.1875 dia. and are parrallel. You may scrap the part if necessary. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
