X4305 Mr. Hives. from GWH. {George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 3.10.22. 49-GB CAR. / Y2631 X4305 A series of tests were carried out on 49-GB Car to determine the-h whether the Dorris scheme with the hot spot throttle was required. A series of tests pulling 12/15 m.p.h. (approx.) full throttle failed to show any signs of piling up. These tests were carried out with a ¼" pipe leading up from the boilers being restricted at the induction pipe end. A further series of tests were taken with a 3/16" pipe leading up from the boilers. The first test very bad piling up was the result but all other tests failed to pile up. The Dorris scheme was then blanked off and further tests taken. The first test very bad piling up was the result but other tests failed to get any bad piling up - once or twice a slight miss or piling up was noticed. We changed back again to the Dorris scheme with the ¼" pipe with the same result - first test bad piling up afterwards all clear. The 3/16" pipes were fitted with the same result. GWH. {George W.
