| X227 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/HP.19.1.34. c. c. E.B. re Chassis Frame Distortion. We wish to confirm our conversation of this morning, that you will make a test of the Bentley, 25-HP, and Phantom II chassis, with a view to discovering the vertical deflection of the side member. We suggest that a straight edge be clamped to the rear two body brackets extending forward until it is over the forward body bracket, the weight equivalent to two men is placed on the centre of the sidemember, and the amount whereby the front end of the straight edge approaches the frame is measured. We are interested in this information in our efforts to discover the reason why when fully loaded a Bentley coupé with five passengers it is reported that the door, which, when in the normal unloaded condition closes perfectly, when loaded it rubs the step rubbers.
