*3587 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 20 HP. STARTER. IMPROVED RR BIJUR This looks as though lubrication by plenty of thin oil would either kill or cure this. The teeth of the casehardened pinion are like cutting tool teeth. Will they not work if round like our change gears, and could we consider hardening a deep ring gear on the F.W? This could be made to keep fairly circular by its great depth, and flat by being hardened between plates. We could arrange that the narrow hard gears could be ground in the teeth by threading several on a suitable hub. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
