Dear Sir,
Re: Petrol Tanks - Bentley Long Wheelbase and Bentley Short Wheelbase.
We send you herewith blueprint of F.CD.555, shewing a revised shape and cross section of the petrol tank for the above cars, and which it is proposed to fit to 2.B.5. and 1.B.50.
The body of the tank has been made symmetrical about a horizontal axis in the end view. This change causes the tank to approach the transverse trough in the body for the cantilever hinges of the rear luggage flap. It would foul the trough of a flap on a fully swept body, but we are prepared to neglect this on the grounds that such backs would certainly have an added boot, in view of our present desire to have luggage carrying capacity not less than a certain fixed minimum, which a fully swept back without boot cannot provide.
We would be glad if you would give us your views on this changed shape of tank, and let us know whether you consider there are any serious objections to its adoption.
Yours faithfully,
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
