X.3461/c RE REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS.

With reference to the new rear shock absorbers, when the shock absorbers are put together, we recommend that the whole of the interior of the shock absorber should be chock full of grease; this not only keeps the surfaces lubricated but also assists us in preventing the water getting in. It should be realised that the rear shock absorbers are not absolutely water-tight.

Care should be taken in erecting these shock absorbers to see that too much compression is not put on the felt washer. We have had several cases of shock absorbers making a noise which has been due to the felt washer being compressed very tightly.

Attached herewith is a sheet which gives the load in the different stages of the shock absorber when the parts are made to the different limits on the drawing. We consider that we ought to aim at a maximum load on the shock absorber of ~~100~~ 60 to 70 lbs.
