71st Meeting Nov. 7. 11. Re Mrs. Nicholl's Car. x953 Mr. Nadin read an extract from a letter re Mrs. Nicholls' Car:- "This car has been sent in here to have a new cross steering tube fitted owing to the thread having stripped off one end of the old one. The old tube has been examined by the Works, and they report that this is due to the lock-nut having worked loose from the jaw. The steering covers were full of dirt instead of grease, and they think this indicates neglect." *653 Mr. Johnson asks:- "Is this difficulty likely to happen to other cars, as if it did, it might cause serious accident on the road and do us harm." The Committee are of the opinion that the the accident is due entirely to neglect, and propose that a note covering this particular job be inserted in our new Instruction Book. They wish to point out that it is not reasonable to expect our car to run properly without attention. *653 The parts when received here were in an extremely bad state, and as mentioned in the report, the joints were filled with mud. The Committee suggest that Mr. Spinney should be instructed to get out some better means of locking and submit the same to the Committee. | ||
