X.3398 - P & R BATTERY TYPE B.D.W.11.

Three of these batteries were received in an uncharged condition; they are of 75 a.h. rated capacity. The arrangement of cells is similar to our standard. The cells are completely sealed in to the battery case, which may be called the battery box in this instance, as it is not intended that the battery shall be put into another box. Instead of this, the P & R patent fastening is provided, by which the battery is secured to the running board. The cell to cell connections are O.K. and keep quite cool on the high rate discharge tests.

The weight of the battery is 95 lbs.

The ampere-hours realised on preliminary low rate discharges were rather less than rated, but this should improve with use. On the high rate discharge test the battery did quite well, maintaining over 104 amperes for 6 minutes through our standard external resistance of .100 ohm. The battery will just meet our specification in this respect. The battery has given good results in actual trial on the experimental car, which are dealt with in Mr. Hives' report.
