To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} WRAITH RADIATOR FILLER SCHEME. This consists of a threaded Bakelite plug EW.1065 screwed into a spun brass insert EW.1064 which is sweated into the filler casting to form the female portion of the thread. We want the plug to be sufficiently loose in the insert to work easily without having unnecessary slack and do not know yet exactly what diametrical clearance will be necessary. In any case we have arranged with the makers of the spun insert that we shall supply to them a metal master plug and they will pass off each insert by trying it on this master plug. Will you, therefore, please produce as soon as possible a master plug to EW.1065, in steel, to the upper limits shown on EW.1065. It need not, of course, have the slotting and finger grips shown on drawing. This plug can be given a chromium deposit of negligible thickness to prevent it rusting, and it will be used as a production gauge. When complete will you please advise Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. and despatch it to the Stainless Spinning Works, 182, Miller Street, Aston, Birmingham 6, marking it "For the attention of Mr.E.P.Blake". Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. will then obtain a sample which gives the required working clearance and thus lay down a standard to which the Spinning people can work. This master plug should be completed as soon as possible in order to avoid delaying the ordering of these inserts. Will By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} please alter the detail drawing of the insert EW.1064 so that the external diameter of the insert is specified to give a push fit in the filler casting. Further, the note regarding the thread should read "The thread to start .475 from the top and run off at a depth of 1.150." Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. | ||
