X 9620. STARTER MOTOR.

With reference to your calculations regarding the starter motor, the current required for turning this motor with a teazer winding will be enormously reduced owing to the large magnetic flux obtained by the teazer winding.

My estimate is that 10 amps. will be sufficient.

It is desirable to keep this current low because it has to be dealt with on the somewhat delicate contacts of the starter scheme.

Regarding the winding sent from Derby I have decided to let Mr. Stent lay out a winding giving the right number of turns. I do not think the square section suggested by Derby so good as the strip adopted in the Goshawk starter motor, the reason being that the strip as we arranged it with the thin sheet copper internal end is much easier to wind and better and safer to form to the curvature of the space the winding is to fit.
