X.664 - SULPHATION OF CELLS X.995

I thank you for your letter re sulphating of cells. I fear, however, that practically nothing has been done to prevent sulphating under neglectful circumstances.

I am not sure what we say in the instruction Book, but we ought to make it quite clear concerning the two points mentioned, (1) that cells should always be filled up with distilled water not diluted acid (unless the specific gravity has been tested and found low or the acid has been spilt from the cells) to compensate for the losses due to that lost in prolonged charging.

The other point which should also be marked in the Book in block letters is that the cells must not be left uncharged.

The section in our catalogue should be rewritten Ask the Exide what they would say first. Consisely in big print give running instrictions, afterwards more detail for small print.
