SPECTRECodename for Phantom III BRAKES.

Meeting of Design and Experimental to discuss the position.

Present:- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hdy.{William Hardy} and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}

It is first of all pointed out that the policy is to proceed as fast as possible with the finished designs for conventional low rating front springing and conventional semi-servo brake system as we know it on the Phantom 2, with the exception that as much as we have used of the Girling type of operation will be retained with the object of reducing sponge to the minimum.

There are, however, three SpectreCodename for Phantom IIIs to be completed for experimental purposes with the independent suspension, and it will be necessary to provide these three cars with efficient semi-servo braking. For this purpose the larger servo will be required, and this is already on the gearbox which is being pushed forward for No.2. SpectreCodename for Phantom III, and further gearboxes will follow.

With regard to the remainder of the scheme for semi-servo braking, this has been issued in design form independently of the improvements to the independent suspension, and is comprised in the following drawings:-

N. Sch.4366. Layout of Rear Brake Mechanism. RR. brakes with Girling linkage.

N. Sch.4365. Rear brake equalisers. RR. brakes with Girling linkage.

N. Sch.4361. Front brakes with Bentley adjustment and Girling linkage.
