Z6 3006 Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/R.18.12.36. CONTINENTAL CHASSIS. Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}6/E.17.12.36., we can let Barkers have the Continental chassis by the end of the first week in January; if we do this, we shall fit a dummy engine unit, as, otherwise, we shall lose a month's development work while the chassis is standing at the Coachbuilders. We would like Lee Evans, or someone in the London organisation to weigh the chassis when it arrives in London, and get Barkers to agree to the figure before they start their work. We should like the process to be repeated when the chassis leaves Barkers with the coachwork and wings fitted. It will then be possible to get a complete value for the coachwork, and when the car is finished we shall, by subtraction, get a value for the chassis weight; if this is not done we are sure there will be recriminations. When the chassis returns from Barkers we shall require 2/3 weeks to fit the correct engine unit and finish it off, and even then it must be regarded as an experimental piece of apparatus, because we have made fairly sweeping modifications, and some of the bits probably will not work.
