Bentley V Chassis.
Specification for the Service desMines.

Engine. Petrol, 4 stroke, at front of chassis 6 cylinders in line 89 m.m. bore by 114 m.m. stroke the cylinder block being cast in one piece, and bolted to a separate crankcase.

The valves are mounted in a separate cylinder head and are operated from a single camshaft by means of push rods and rocking levers.

The crankshaft is carried in 7 bearings two carburetters of the expanding type, with constant level float feed, supply the mixture to a common induction manifold.

The engine is started by means of a 12 volt electric motor with a toothed pinion engaging with a gear wheel on the flywheel.

Exhaust. The exhaust gasses, before escaping into the air, pass through two silencers connected in series, and so constructed as to render the exhaust silent.

The front silencer is approximately 430 m.m. in length with a mean diameter of 175 m.m. and the rear silencer is approximately 430 m.m. in length and 160 m.m. in diameter.

Ignition. The ignition is by battery and coil with distributor, and the timing is controlled by a centrifugal governor.

Cooling. Water is circulated through the cylinder block and radiator by means of a centrifugal pump, and cooling is assured by means of a fan placed immediately behind the radiator.

Clutch. Of the single dry plate type, enclosed in a casing between the engine and the gearbox.

Gearbox. The gearbox has sliding gears and synchromesh cones, providing four forward speeds and one reverse.

The gear ratios, with the rear axle ratio of 10 x 43 are as follows -
