V5940 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from CJ. c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Rg.{Mr Rowledge} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Nor. c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to PN.{Mr Northey} re Goshawk. I note that in a recent memorandum you expressed your view that 4 wheel brakes on the Goshawk are of more importance than the side levers and the 4-speed gearbox. I hope that the technical officials will not in consequence of these remarks think that there is any alteration in the policy which demands that side levers should be supplied at the earliest possible moment. I do not think we have ever pressed particularly for four speeds, although we have said that we should like to have them, but we certainly cannot add to the Goshawk any item which is going materially to increase the cost of the chassis. Four wheel brakes would appear to be desirable when we are in a position to fit them but they will have to be optional and only fitted if the purchaser pays the cost over and above the ordinary price of the chassis.
