engine is still fit for a great number of hours service.
X.2052. All the other parts on the engine are in very good condition. We had no signs of water leaks on the cylinder jackets during the test.
The Air Ministry are very keen on us increasing the output on the Condor engine. They say that whilst it is reasonable to reduce the output for commerical machines they must maintain military & naval machines which have the maximum efficiency. So far we have pressed upon them that we consider the first essential thing is to prove the reliability; as soon as they are entirely satisfied with the reliability of the Condor engine, we might then consider the question of increasing output.
On our experimental Condor engine we have been running with a .66 reduction gear. This has completed 32 hours running. We examined it after 30 hoursrunning and found that all the parts were in excellent condition. We believe that we shall find that the simple epicyclic gear will give less trouble than the compound type.
