R.R. 288A (100 T) (S.G. 648, 19-5-20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2512 X 3389 To Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. " " Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} " " Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} R2/G20.8.20. X.3254. RE "CONDOR" ENGINE. X.1831. X.3389. I am extremely pleased to hear of the fine run of 52 hours with the "Condor" at over 520 H.P. representing a flying distance of 5,000 miles in 1,000 mile non-stop flights at full horse power. We now hear that the Government wish us to further develop the H.P. of this engine as far as possible. I suggest that we go in for such alterations as will allow it to do 600 H.P. at any speed or compression pressure and M.E.P. that we find possible to adopt, saving at the same time weight by adopting the .66 reduction gear, and lightening this and any other part.
