X.607 - CARE OF CHLORIDE 6 EXE 5 BATTERY x995

In accordance with your request EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}41/C13.120, we now return Mr. Northey's note referring to the care of the 6 EXE 5 battery.

Our instructions EFC2/T6.10.19, pages 22 to 221, regarding the care of the Chloride 6 EXE 5 battery, were based upon the instructions contained in the Chloride Company's booklet, No.2004 of 1918, and upon the instructions given on the battery itself, and they will be found to be in substantial agreement with these two sources of information.

The only point in which there is a material difference is that we have included in our instructions a discharge and subsequent charge for the purpose of increasing the capacity to the full, before putting the battery on the car, where in some circumstances it may never be so completely discharged as to take full advantage of the possible capacity of the plates, it being noted that full capacity can only be achieved in the first instance by a complete discharge and then recharging the battery.

Apart from this, our density, height above plates, charging current and time, agree to the letter with the figures given in the 1918 booklet referred to.

Contd.
