The restoring load is nearly half the length
of an axle shaft. Virtually therefore no sensible
force is required to cause the necessary movement in the
wheel drivers. An old shaft and driver were used for the
experiment.

If the drivers could restrain the shaft we
should expect them to break and therefore recommend that a
design is issued for short drivers of large area which will
allow the necessary universal movement without wear.

We do not expect the longer ones already
issued to be a success, and would prefer to send to France
the suggested new variety.
