ROAD SPRINGS ON CARS FITTED WITH
FOUR WHEEL BRAKES.

With reference to the telegram stating that 98-NK with the standard 12 1/4% springs was considered unsatisfactory. This car, except for the front springs which have been changed from the temporary 12 1/4% to the standard 12 1/4%, is identically in the same condition as when yourself, PN{Mr Northey}, CWB and also R.{Sir Henry Royce} passed the springing as satisfactory. We cannot believe that the alteration to the front springs could have made any noticeable difference. The alteration only consists of an extra plate in each spring. In this test the nip on the back springs can hardly enter into it because the back springs have not been touched and are identical to when the car was passed as satisfactory by you and R.{Sir Henry Royce}

The rear springs on all the cars that have been tested, whether the London Trials cars or cars fitted with front wheel brakes, are the same make and same type, and from a number we have examined there is very little variation in the amount of nip.

As regards these tests on springs, we recommend that we take it in stages and first of all prove whether a known car is affected by the addition of the
