1091 (Experimental Dept.) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}7/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 22nd January, 1937. Capt. S.B. Wilks, The Rover Company Ltd., C O V E N T R Y. Dear Wilks, Replying to your letter of January 20th, Mr. F.C.G. Wix was employed for a short time in the Experimental Dept. here in 1926. We did not keep him very long, as his personality was not what we required. He was industrious, but only moderately efficient technically. I should like to congratulate you on the 20 H.P. Rover, which I think is an exceedingly good effort at the price. The steering I have already mentioned, at the same time appreciating that it is easier to criticise than to put the matter right. The other feature which worried me most was the lack of room for the driver. We have got so used to large steering wheels with thin rims that it is difficult to like a small wheel again; furthermore, there seems to be very little elbow room on the right-hand side. We have come to the conclusion that even people of the Bentley class of owner appreciate room in the driving seat more than many other features, and we have also found that we can give them this room and sacrifice very little in weight or windage. However, I know you have severe limitations with your body dies. Thank you for the information about the 12 H.P. Yours sincerely, | ||
