APPLIANCES FOR THE THERMAL TREATMENT OF METALS. Boxes for malleable iron and cementation. - These accessories (necessary to all who reheat iron to decarburise it or who treat steel to recarburise it) wear out very rapidly, get out of shape or broken when made of cast-iron or steel. A considerable number of such appliances must therefore be kept in reserve. Use boxes made of NICHROMIC and you will consume thirty times less. You will order them of less thickness, i.e. - less heavy and less expensive to heat up, you will be able to cool them as rapidly as you please after discharging your furnace, thus realizing a considerable saving of time and reduction in cost-price. Finally, the stock of material will be reduced to what is strictly necessary. Tubes for pyrometers.- These tubes, usually made of steel, oxidise very quickly and must be protected by a steel sheath which is sometimes renewed every day. For this steel sheath, substitute one made of NICHROMIC; your pyrometers will remain accurate for a much longer time, as the brazing of these two parts will not become oxidised and, consequently, destroyed or damaged. Supports for Fuses. - These supports made of NICHROMIC are used up to 1150°C.; the fuses may be carefully arranged there-on and their inclination most accurately observed. In other words, there is less risk of errors in reading temperatures. | ||
