4.B.IV. BENTLEY - 10,000 MILES IN ENGLAND
REPORT ON CHIEF ITEMS THAT WERE TESTED.

ENGINE.
The engine during this test was run on Shell No.1 petrol to obtain results on valves.

The engine started up readily of a morning after being left out in the open, the average temperature being 2°C. The power and acceleration were in no way decreased by the use of Shell petrol than with Pratt's Ethyl. There were no pronounced detonations. Slow running under load was even. There were occasional misfires upon acceleration.

VALVES.
There was no trouble with any valves losing their clearance throughout the mileage. The valve clearances were set to, inlet .004", exhaust .006", when cold.

AEROLITE PISTONS.
These pistons have run 12 hrs. endurance on the Bed, 2,000 miles previous to the first 10,000 miles, and have continued throughout the 10,000 miles without any faults. A peculiarity with these pistons is that when taken out for examination and replaced, they knock slightly during the first day's run, afterwards there is no sign of knock either cold or hot. They were in a very good condition at the finish of the mileage.

CONNECTING RODS. DURAL, HIGH DUTY ALLOY R.L.12396.
RUNNING DIRECT ON CRANKSHAFT.
We had no indication of any failure. They were free from xx any thumps or knocks. Oil pressure remained steady.
