CLUTCH. LOP.98.538.

Re-lined with 9.55191 Ferodo R.D.11
Chemically treated.

The clutch was smooth in engagement, but it was impossible to avoid noticeable transmission rattle. The clutch was used extensively and the pedal came up to the boards after 8,573 miles. At the finish of the mileage no further wear had taken place. There was no slipping under load.

PROPELLER SHAFT WITH HARDLE SYCR BEARINGS

H.SCH.3827. FILLED WITH GREASE.

joints
The propeller shaft/gave no trouble and no grease was lost throughout the test.

STEERING. CROSS & SIDE STEERING TUBES.

The cross and side steering tubes were fitted with steel mud excluders over the ball joints to E.T.3845-6. These were satisfactory during the running of the car. We did not dismantle them and a separate report should be made when dismantled.

GEARBOX. LOP.GB.518. AEC.3408.

Special hardened thrust washers
fitted on third motion shaft.

The gears were a good standard for quietness, change of gears was consistently good. No gears came out of mesh, slack developed in the third motion shaft, and wear in the rear housing could be detected. The box was not dismantled, therefore we cannot give the condition of the hardened steel washers.

SERVO.

The servo was efficient at the beginning of the test, but its efficiency gradually became less effective and more load had to be applied to the foot pedal. The chief cause we found to be due to the three driving pins digging into the bushes and preventing the free floating of the servo friction plates. These pins are to be lengthened to overcome the fault.
