HEAT AT THE CLAN FOUNDRY.

In Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/ML.25.9.40. and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/ML. 25.10.40, we asked you to fit up some additional radiators at the Clan Foundry.

On making enquiries we find that nothing has been done and understand that you are alleged to have said that you did not consider that the additional heat was necessary.

Before any requests of this sort are put up to you, I personally investigate them to see that they are reasonable. Either I am considered to be capable of looking after the Clan, or somebody else should be given my job. I find it extremely irritating however, to have to make a personal supplication for everything that we require to be done, which is handled by your Department.

A typical example of the way you handle our requests was given in Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/ML.24.9.40. I cannot really believe that you get any personal satisfaction from the inconvenience which you cause us.

During the last two days it has been quite impossible to work in some of the offices here and the men in the garage have simply left the job in order to get their hands thawed.

It is not a case of equipment in the case of the Offices, since the radiators are on the floor.

After our struggle with the black-out, which was achieved in spite of the co-operation of the Plant Department, we are gradually becoming exasperated. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has far too much to do to be worried by all these minor details.

We are quite certain that we shall shortly be fined for letting light out of the big doors. We have now been waiting for a screen for 8 weeks at least.
