SECRET. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from CJ. X 9946 X9946 X9770 CJ8/E31/12/23 1 With reference to the new engine, you say that there are parts which you think will give trouble and which need alteration and that it is not reasonable to suppose that we can replace an engine which has been in service for 16 years at short notice. What are the parts which are likely to give trouble? I understood from R.{Sir Henry Royce} that the engine was very largely a repetition on a larger scale of the Goshawk engine and that he considered that we ought to push it into manufacture at the earliest possible date and that it was quite good enough as it was. I presume that you are in any case pushing forward a chassis fitted with the new engine and the new brakes for PN{Mr Northey} to take to the South of France in January? CJ. | ||
