SECRET. To Ex/ID. from Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Ve. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/JH.12.2.41. Dictated Monday 10.2.41. 40 m.m. Gun in Beaufighter. In accordance with the arrangement reached during your visit to this office today, you will make schemes for the mounting of the 40 m.m. gun in the Beaufighter as instructed in Ve.10/CB.7.2.41. and the Air Ministrys letter ref. SB.{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}15142/RD Arm.1 of which we gave you copies. The guns have been positioned on QPL.165 already issued and there remains to be provided the supports. The feed will be that known as the Vertical Chute Type of QS.187 of which we gave you a print. We also loaned to you a complete set of prints giving full particulars of the gun bays. It will be necessary to go to Hucknall to see the plane, in order to make sure that this experimental machine No.R.2061 and the drawings agree. We have reason to believe that certain changes have been made to the construction from time to time. The forward support which is attached to the wing spars should take the recoil load and must allow the gun to be moved in any direction to a limited extent to permit of alignment. The rear mounting will be of the stirrup type. Attached to this memo. are copies of all memos. we have received on this subject for your information. As soon as you have completed in project form the mounting schemes these should be shewn to Ve. and if you will inform Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} he will arrange to go with you.
