Chassis Parts in abeyance.

Parts manufactured for Continental Chassis.

With mine Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}1/AD24.10.28 (to G) I sent (to G) an inventory Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}2/AD24.10.28 of parts manufactured for Continental Chassis which could not, by modification or alteration, be used on production.

It was decided to keep all the parts in stock for a period of six months and then review the position.

On the 10th ult. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} wrote to Sales (C) as follows :-

"When the work on this chassis was stopped the question of disposal of the various parts was brought up, and we decided to keep the whole of the parts in stock, the position to be reviewed again in six months.

"The time has now arrived for a further decision to be made, and in view of a recent memo referring to the likelihood of certain Indian customers requiring Continental type chassis, we should like to have your opinion as to whether we should keep the material in question for a further period, or whether you think we should dispose of it."

In reply Sales (C) wrote us on the 30th ult. as follows :-

"We do not want to build up any special chassis of this type, in view of the forthcoming "3S" chassis.

"I should hardly have thought that it would have been necessary to scrap the parts, however. Could not these be used up on repairs, in some cases, or standard production in others? For instance, the Hartford Shock Absorbers are always good stock, and various other items, presumably, would be usable."

As regards these remarks I may say that the whole of the material produced for the Continental chassis was thoroughly combed out last September and every part which could be used on current production, either unaltered or modified, was transferred to production stock, and only
