Rolls Royce Ltd. 2nd September, 1935. best position for the Lamp is rather a matter for the individual preference of the Driver, and the best position is most easily found when actually on the road in fog. We shall be glad if no attempt to alter the actual interior focussing of the Lamp be made before trial, as it is exceedingly difficult to obtain the best results from the Lamp, unless its principles are thoroughly understood. The Lamps are normally supplied focussed and locked by us, and no attention beyond the possible alteration of the angle of the off-set reflector - by means of the small screw underneath the bulb - should be necessary. The bulbs used in this Lamp are manufactured specially for us by Messrs. General Electric Co., British Thomson Houston Ltd., and Edison Swan Ltd., and are available from these Houses, or direct from ourselves, - in either case at your ordinary terms. We advocate, as far as possible, that supplies be drawn from us, as each bulb is tested before supply, for accuracy of focus. As each Lamp is made to a high degree of accuracy, we would say right away that unless the bulbs, which are manufactured to exceedingly fine tolerances, are used, and also of a correct focal length, the results from the Lamp will be worse, on the average, than an ordinary Lamp. We shall be glad if you will give the Lamp we are sending you, any trial you feel inclined to make, as it is in all ways a standard production, and any subsequent Lamps we have the pleasure of supplying will be the same. We can also supply a Lamp which has not the spread effect, such as the Lamp we are sending you. As there is a certain amount of difference in the way the reflectors are positioned in relation to the filament, we shall be glad to supply you with one of the more concentrated type for trial also, if you desire. These Lamps are retailed at £3. 15. 0. and we shall be pleased to supply you at this price, less 50% discount. We shall be interested to hear the results of any tests you make, whether to our advantage or otherwise, as fair comments of any description are of great service to us.
