By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c.to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X4107 Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}5/NJ/13.3.25. Enamelling of Road Wheels. In accordance with yours By5/H3.3.25, I wrote The Dunlop Rubber Co. to get ready as soon as possible the under-mentioned wheels:- 6 - 32 x 4½ S/S. E.5 type detachable wire wheels, Nickel finish. 6 - 32 x 4½ S/S. E.2 type detachable wire wheels, Nickel finish. 6 - 32 x 4½ S/S. Steel artillery wheels of the new type with 12 spokes for 40/50 HP.chassis, Nickel finish. 6 - 32 x 4½ S/S. Steel artillery wheels of the new type with 12 spokes for 20 HP.chassis, Nickel finish. I instructed that 3 wheels of each type must be delivered to us here unenamelled and we would enamel them here by our method, the other 3 wheels of each type I instructed should be enamelled by Dunlops by their latest method with two coats and delivered to us here for testing purposes. This morning we are in receipt of a letter from the Dunlop Rubber Co. stating they have taken note that our Experi-mental Dept. are providing the first lot of 6 wheels mentioned in our previous list. I have at once replied that the 6 wheels which our Expl.Dept. have provided are extra to the wheels called for by our previous letter and would be used on tests quite separate from those for which we require the other wheels. We asked them therefore to send us all the 24 wheels covered by our previous list. In the same letter the Dunlop people asked whether we preferred to wait until the new steel artillery wheels with 12 spokes are ready, or would we in the meantime prefer that they sent us some wheels with 10 spokes. I have replied that we shall prefer to wait until the new 12 spoke wheels are ready. When submitting this matter to the Dunlop people in the (contd) | ||
