X1775 B/W. To EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from Ip Copy to wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} " " Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " Blv. Lp.{Mr Lappin}5/IAM.2.3.35. Re: REPRESENTATIVES AT AIR STATIONS. (EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn.1/WH.22.2.35.). With reference to the above, we think that with the exercise of a little tact no great difficulty need be experienced in dealing with Service troubles as in the past. The testers stationed at the Experimental Establishments are quite clear. We think, however, that in regard to sending anybody to Service Units, it would be better to clear the air first, as quite apart from the instructions contained in the Air Ministry circular letter of the 14th February, 1935, there is an A.M.O. issued to the squadrons of the same date and dealing with the same subject, in which it is stated that any mechanic must produce a form, in duplicate, before admission to the station is granted. This form is in three parts and I fail to see how we could possibly comply with the instructions therein, particularly for services which are going to be rendered without charge. I think perhaps it would be as well if those men who are stationed outside and who are in the habit of being sent out from Derby, should have an identification card, and where you wish to send anyone to an Air Force Unit without an official request from the 'Powers that Be', we have no doubt that we shall be able to clear the matter at this end if we have prior notice of your intentions.
