GOSHAWK 11. FIRTHS SPRINGS. X4429

With reference to the question of material for Firths springs, after giving the matter careful consideration during the weekend, I am certain that we should carry on with Chrome Vanadium springs. I have mentioned this matter to Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} , who agrees with me that this represents the best proposition for material.

This should settle up all outstanding points, the only other factor being, that we would like to again impress upon Messrs. Firths the question of obtaining an excellent appearance by having the plates so arranged that they bed nicely one to the other.

The result of our tests shews that Chrome Vanadium is distinctly better than Silico Chrome, and the variations in the latter are quite comparable with those in the former. We certainly think we should like Messrs. Firths to do all they possibly can to improve the condition of the material, or make recommendations which would enable us to get over the breakage of the top plates.

For the present we wish to limit the orders to 100 sets, as we are desirous of obtaining information and do not wish to push ourselves into unnecessary risks.
