By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} c. to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 4429 Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 3/NJ16.1.23. RECEIVED JAN 1923 Firth's 40/50 H.P. Springs. Referring to yours By4/P10.1.23, I hand you herewith copy of Firth's letter of 13th inst. When communicating to Firths the remarks in By4/P10.1.23, I informed them that for the bumper test we shall select a set of springs from the three sets they have already delivered, notwithstanding that the poundages are on the high side, but for the two sets of springs we intend to fit to experimental cars we shall require springs as follows:- For one car - 1 Front Spring 900 lbs. " 1 " " 950 " " 1 Rear " 1900 " " 1 " " 2000 " For the other car - 1 Front Spring 900 lbs. " 1 " " 950 lbs. " 1 Rear " 1700 " " 1 " " 1800 " We asked Firths whether they were prepared to re-build to these poundages two of the three sets of springs which they have already delivered to us, adding that if they did not think this possible it would be necessary to build two further sets of springs for this experiment. Perhaps Ey. and Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will take charge of Mr.Briars when he comes here tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon. When Mr.Briars was here on the last occasion, Ey. was unable to see him.
