1300 Experimental Dept.) Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 10/FJH {Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} /R. 17th February, 1937. Messrs. Ransome & Marles Bearing Co.,Ltd., NEWARK-ON-TRENT. For the attention of F.O. Hickling, Esq. Your Ref: Tech. Dept. FOH/AD. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 16th instant, and note with surprise that the wider grooves do not weaken the roller. We enclose a print showing a comparison of the complete roller sections with the wide and narrow grooves, and we are sure that, after looking at this, you will agree that the wider groove does weaken the roller in both cases. You will remember that you originated the suggestion of making the groove narrower, and we are of the opinion that this is one of the features which make the use of large dia. balls possible. We should be glad, therefore, if you would adopt the narrow groove and send us revised prints of your B.10023/4. Concerning the six assemblies to each of B.10023 and B.10024 which you are making for us, we wish to mention again that we are urgently in need of these, and in the case of the rollers to B.10023, it is essential that we should have two of these during next week. If you have already machined the roller with wide grooves we will accept two of these if necessary. In addition to the above, we require the assemblies to your B.9828 which you are making. The Writer 'phoned your Works this afternoon and asked for a detail print of this assembly, but was informed that it was "very unusual" to send away prints of detail drawings. Will you kindly either confirm or overcome this red tape. What we | ||
