Gentlemen:

Referring to the writer's recent conversation with you in regard to Bakelite-Delecto and Continental Bakelite (Bakelized Canvas), wish to advise that we are mailing you samples of these materials in sheets, rods and tubes, together with our catalog giving detailed information concerning same. You will notice from the samples that the Continental-Bakelite is made with a cotton duck base and also with a linen base. The general properties of both grades of Continental-Bakelite are identical but they differ somewhat in mechanical and dielectric strength. The stock with the linen base is usually used in cases where thin material is required as it is possible to obtain closer limits of thickness.

The following information in regard to Bakelite-Delecto and Continental-Bakelite will be of interest to you:

Our Bakelite-Delecto, the highest grade of insulating material, is used generally to replace Hard rubber, mica and other insulating materials as it is much better mechanically and electrically. This material is water-proof. it will not warp or change its shape. it contains no sulphur.; will not deteriorate with age; is not affected by water, oils or acids; punctures at about 100,000 volts under oil in 1/8" thickness; has a tensile strength of about 10,000 lbs per sq. inch and a compression strength of about 35,000 lbs.

Most insulating materials, such as mica, hard rubber and other moulded compounds are extremely brittle. Bakelite-Delecto being very strong mechanically can be used in very much reduced thicknesses and still offer a higher degree of efficiency than the materials it is used to replace.

Our Continent-al Bakelite which is made of the best grade of cotton duck and Bakelite has all the high electrical and waterproof qualities of the Bakelite-Delecto. It is not as strong mechanically as Bakelite-Delecto but has greater toughness. It is absolutely waterproof, and will not lose its mechanical strength under any weather conditions. One of its large uses is for Rail Joint Insulation. It will outwear from 10 to 15 sets of ordinary vulcanised fibre insulation. It is therefor-e economical to use notwithstanding its increased first cost.

Continent-al Bakelite is also largely used for Noiseless Gears and has no equal for this particular
