Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} (Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence) X4086 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/LG1.4.22. 4-GOSHAWK-11. X4086 We have just received a second report from Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} re. Goshawk-11 copy of which we are sending on to you in due course. His general points are :- 1. Steering levers bending - "They have gone torsionally - the ball ends moving inwards towards the centre of the chassis". 2. The petrol filter on the carburetter choked up - "This happened 3 times in 1200 miles. 3. All steering joints and front spring shackles had to be adjusted and oiled - a squeak had developed. 4. Batteries had to be filled up with water about 1/2 litre. 5. Car otherwise running well. Electrical system excellent not even a sparking plug had to be removed. As regards the petrol filter trouble, I have just examined one on Goshawk-11 which was certainly filled up with fluff, sand, rust and water. I feel that this may be due to the foreign matter which may have been originally in the tank and we propose sending this car with the tank and filter system thoroughly cleaned out. I also writing Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} to do this with his car. We suggest that this filter should be fixed up with a settling well. On G.Goshawk.11, the filter arm cannot be withdrawn without taking out the sfe bolt from the steering column. This point I am taking up with BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EP.{G.
