Referring to the water temperature, and to the heating of the water in the Napier engine.

I have not yet heard the size of this engine, but I presume it is a 45 h.p. which as far as I remember is 4" x 5". This would of course not heat quite so much water as our engine of larger bore. The difference, however, seems from Mr Platford's remarks to be considerable, and I should suggest that we look for it in the way that I have previously pointed out in the difference in the quantity of air which is able to pass through the engine, and it is for this reason that I should very much favour the louvred undersheet in combination with the opening under the dashboard, and everything which would tend to allow an increased quantity of air to pass through the radiator and the engine.

It has occurred to me that possibly the circulation of water through the engine on the Napier car is not so fast as ours, and we might see what advantage we could obtain in both power and less heated water by checking the flow of water through our circulating system. Some cock or valve or some other convenient means of stopping the flow of water might be fitted to the pipe entering the radiator. A few experiments on the dynamometer with thermometer would
