To "Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}" Derby Showrooms Sr3/MLG.5.6.34 I should be very much obliged if you could let me know what a real maximum speed of a Continental (79-RY) should be. We are up against it at the present time over here. Most of the demonstration cars that come over to France attain 90 miles per hour on the speedometer. We have two cars at present here, chassis I64-PY and the above mentioned. The former does not attain a speed superior to 140 kms and the latter which has absolutely a true speedometer, only attained a speed of 130 kms, in other words 80 miles per hour. Both these customers ( Mr. Eddy Edmond Blanc & Mr. Sévène) are worrying the life out of us. The former customer we will manage to satisfy by putting on the speedometer, but the latter is a "pukka" engineer, in other words a "slide-rule man" and I am quite certain that there is nothing doing in this direction. If you would be good enough to let us know whether 80 miles are all that we can expect to get out of a Continental fitted with a light 2 doors body, I will tackle this gentleman diplomatically on the subject and we will not waste any more time trying to get kms that are not obtainable.
