We attach herewith a very brief summary of work carried out on the short stroke Diesel engine run about 1930. This is taken from a rather more comprehensive report, and is not intended to give any details. Subsequent to this, the stroke was changed to 8.00" by A.M. requirements, and over 500 hours development run, which it is proposed to summarise in a similar manner to the attached resume. The unit is at present rigged up at Derby Technical College and we are looking into the possibilities of running this again. We anticipate, however, that the benefits to be gained will hardly justify the work involved except in so far as basic information on fuels, surge in fuel lines and the effect of fuel line capacity, and similar associated problems may be concerned. The principle difficulty is the difference in swept volume between this engine and our proposed Diesel. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards} | ||
