Referring to Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} NRC{N. R. Chandler}18/D18.9.25. on the above subject, in the first place the customer may be overoiling the distributor mechanism by means of the little lubricator on the side of the distributor.
We only recommend a few drops of oil in this every 2000 miles. This instruction should be closely adhered to.
Excess of oil here would cause the pitting referred to.

After examining the pitted contact, I should not personally have considered it was a bad case. It appears to me to be quite a reasonable one which would give a considerable length of life still, without any further "touching up".

Pitting of this description occurs often. It reaches the intensity shown, and frequently after that it does not vary much.

The only further recommendations that I know of, which can be made, are :-

a/- That the condenser should be withdrawn from its case and carefully wiped clear of oil, once a week.

b/- It is important that all contacts should be tight.

but beyond that I can make no further recommendations or proposals.

I think the reason why contacts pit on cars and not on EFC's rig is a matter for very careful investigation. I believe EFC. is at the moment engaged upon it, and is giving the matter very special attention.

I am handing EFC. with this memo the pitted contact, and if EFC. can make any further recommendations or throw any further light upon the subject, it will be helpful to both the Expl. Dept. and myself.
