To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} X.4226. E2/M20.6.22. GOSHAWK VALVE GEAR X.4226. We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1599 shewing a valve gear rocker spindle with a small hole through the centre. You will remember that we removed the head of the Goshawk we had at WW. for the purposes of inspection and it was found on putting back the valve gead that the rockers became free again. The original design shewed a spindle .625 diameter outside and .375 internal diameter. The spindle on the car was .6 outside and .4 inside. This difference in thickness however would not amount to much in avoiding distortion of the spindle. We should like to know what the experience of the Expl: Dept: is in connection with this point and whether they think it necessary to strengthen up the rocker spindle as per LeC.1599. It should be noted that the stronger spindle is capable of being case-hardened if we should desire to do so. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
