Wraith II Propeller Shaft.

We send herewith N.Sch.4931 showing modifications to be made to the propeller shaft as shown by N. Sch.

The modifications are as follows:-

(1) The flanged pieces on the gearbox and back axle are provided with a screw thread for an extractor for withdrawal from their tapers. We have now chosen this method instead of the use of an extractor which would pass over the flange, as we consider that there is less risk of distorting the flange with the screwed extractor and the cost of the thread as given by Sft{Mr Swift}/WNW.1/DR.16.10.36 is small.

(2) The bolts are moved slightly outwards in order to give more clearance between the nuts and the joint forks when at the maximum angle.

(3) The inside faces of the forks can be stamped as now shown and require no machining.

(4) The lubricator has been further reduced in size (as required by the Phantom III shaft).

(5) The thickness of the diaphragm in the shaft has been reduced as permitted by (4).

(6) The bore for the diaphragm should be the rough bore of the main piece as enlarged by the fine limit finishing cut.

N.Sch.4931 herewith.
