WRAITH II
PROPELLER SHAFT.

We send herewith N.Sch.4864 showing the above.

The dimensions of the joints are based on those for the Hardy Spicer shaft at present on test on a Bentley.

The alterations that we have made are:-

(1) The needle rollers are longer to diminish the tendency to cross-wind.

(2) External lubrication of the joints is provided for. The nipples we show are similar to the Standard Enots nipples but much reduced in size. No special provision for retaining the oil is made in the nipple, but this is not thought to be necessary.

(3) Adjustment washers are provided between the bearing cups and the spring rings. Without these it would appear to be possible for each joint, to have up to .008" float from side to side.

(4) The flange bolts are .312.

We show our present 25/30 sliding joint with a slight modification at the oil retaining cover where an extra felt ring is added.

Three set screws with variable washers are provided for balancing.

The tube is 3.0" outside diameter by .064" thickness built up from sheet with a welded seam.
