Standardization of a dash control for the petrol reserve on the Phantom II.

PHANTOM 2. ------- Derby have recently informed us that they have in at least one case made the tap on the dash to operate the reserve in the main tank as well as that in the Autovac Tank. It calls for a fitting on the tank for a double pipe line and a special double tap on the Autovac Tank. We suggested that such an arrangement should be fitted up with a view to standardisation on all P.2.cars as soon as possible. As it has already been done there appeared to be no designs needed. The urgent case is that of the cars such as the Continental Touring Saloon, on which the present arrangement is impossible. We believe that something has to be done to chassis already delivered or already completed with coachwork. As a result of a telephone conversation following Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s. memo (Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}17/E.23.3.31.) it is agreed that Derby should fit either the Dash Control Scheme as mentioned in paragraph I. or the control scheme on the side of the frame as illustrated in N.Sch.2774. which was sent to you a long while ago. We leave it to you to fit the one which is the easiest and cheapest, but we prefer the Dash Control. We are anxious that this scheme should become standard as soon as possible on all P.2. Cars as quite a number of the standard chassis have trunks at the back or a boot or even an apron, whilst with the standard arrangement of one spare wheel carried at the rear it is not easy to operate the present reserve tap. ------- On Japan III. it is proposed to use the Dash Control and our designs, already sent to "R", have shewn this.
