suffer as regards resfriction in power and restriction
in noise.

The present standard Goshawk silencer has three
diaphragm baffles and the inlet and outlet pipes extend
into the silencer and form fourth and fifth baffles. These
perforated pipes form very efficient silencing baffles
- we have proved this point on the 40/50 which has a baffle
made in the same way.

The silencer with cutout has three diaphragm
baffles only. We added two more baffles to this silencer
and made the holes similar to those we have in the inlet
and outlet pipes. We found even with this, the silencer
was noticeably more noisy than the present standard silencer.

We have tried a silencer and cutout made in the
following manner :-

This is very efficient. It has the advantage that it has
the same degree of silence as we have with the present
standard silencer. With the cutout open it suffers from
the fish-tail outlet, otherwise it is excellent as regards
power and noise.
