To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from H1/EJW. c. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/EG. C. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} c. BY/NS.{Norman Scott} c. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Mr. W. Smith (Radiator Shop). ------------------------- H1/EJW.S/GS.9.5.38. M.1.595. LABORATORY. NICKEL STEEL STUDS G.73535. The hardness of the broken stud submitted was found to be 538 Brinell, which would account for the breakage. The studs could not be tapped in this condition, so it is evident that they must have been heated to an excessive temperature for the descaling operation which Mr. Smith (Radiator Shop) informs us is done prior to fluxing for tinning. Mr. Smith confirmed that this may have happened, and has already taken steps to prevent a recurrence of the trouble. H1/EJW. | ||
