BENTLEY 60. INDUCTION SYSTEM ETC. FOR 1.750" S.U. CARBURETTER.

Please receive herewith :-

E.CD.1258 (2 sheets) Induction System, Twin 1.750" S.U. Carburetter - B.60.

The inlet manifold with 1.750" bore to suit 1.750" dia. throttle S.U. carburetters with automatic starter unit was requested by memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}6/JH.20.2.39.

The designs show the complete induction system including carburetters, inlet pipe, automatic starter connections, air intake pipe, air silencer and cleaner, water supply and return pipes to carburetter hot spots, petrol supply pipes between mechanical petrol pump and carburetters, petrol drain and overflow pipes from float-chambers and air intake, and also the throttle connecting shaft with couplings and throttle closing spring.

The small air silencer and petrol catch bowl on starter unit are shown on the design to indicate that they may be used if required without alteration to other features.

The air silencer called for is as originally designed for the B.III engine to E.CD.530 and E.CD.877 including the large diameter central tube and not the smaller diameter instructed for B.V, new supporting brackets are called for, and also the angle of the outlet connection is altered.

The carburetters are S.U. Type H.6 with 1.75 diameter throttle, and should include all special features applicable to S.U. carburetters used on B.V., such as steel bushes for throttle spindles and the finish of the carburetters. Please note the position of the pipe connection for the starter pipe on the rear carburetter which is as shown on S.U. drawing number 3268.

The connections used for the petrol pipes on the petrol pump are standard A.C. parts; it should be noted that if the mechanical pump is retained on this engine, the question of the appearance and finish of the pump will need taking up with the pump makers, as the models we have seen are hardly a RR. job. Will you please detail and instruct the parts required for test on the experimental B.60 engines. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}
