Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale}10/KW. 14th January, 1936. The Northern Aluminium Co.Ltd., BIRMINGHAM. Dear Sirs, With reference to your "Lo-Ex" Piston advertisement in the January "Automobile Engineer". We assume from the title of your aluminium that it has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than 22.4 x 10-6 per degree C. If this is so it is of interest to us as we are looking for such an alloy to use with a high expansion steel, having a co-efficient of expansion of about 18 x 10-6 per degree C. If the use of your alloy would reduce the difference between these two figures we should be much obliged if you could supply us with a graph of tensile strength against temperature, and any other of its physical properties that you have available. Trusting to hear from you shortly. I am, Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
