RE. PRODUCTION GOSHAWKS.

In continuation of my memo. of the 15th inst., (R2/M15.7.22) I would like to add the following:-
(10) FRONT ROAD SPRINGS. X4261 These we agreed should have the same top plate as the standard run in France. Springs themselves shall consist of a few more plates namely, rather stiffer springs and slightly higher rating, but the clearance between the top of the spring and the buffer shall remain as at present. The result will be that the springs should strike the buffers less frequently but the car will ride a little more harshly at the front on a moderate road. It is thought that the riding will be a little steadier - less fore and aft pitching, and that the springs will be less liable to be broken.
(11) RADIATORS. X4240 It is assumed that we shall have to design a suitable set of louvres for the outside of the radiator already made. This will be dealt with as soon as the future radiator is completed, which it is intended shall be our ultimate standard. In the meantime we are sending you today the drawing for the thermostat which it is intended shall directly actuate the louvres. It is thought there is no difficulty in building up the thermostat providing we get suitable tubes as it is apparently only necessary to put in the correct proportion of alchol and water to suit the temperature desired. The exact proportion of these substances will naturally be important but the quantity appears to be unimportant as long as sufficient space is left when the thermostat is closed.
